Healthy Active Schools
Our school, along with 57 other Ottawa schools, has partnered with Ottawa Public Health (OPH) in the Healthy Active Schools Program. Healthy Active Schools (HAS) is designed to promote healthy, active living, create healthy school environments and ultimately prevent diseases such as Type 2 diabetes. The goal of HAS is to enable children to make healthy choices about food and physical activity on a daily basis. Each school forms a health committee with representation from school staff and students, parents, community members and a public health nurse. The committee is responsible for visioning, planning and implementing strategies regarding healthy eating and physical activity in our school. This year's HAS committee includes the principal, Mrs. Kirby and Mrs. Deborah Byrne our public health nurse.
